Commission a Custom Print

Affordable, meaningful, handmade, your own

I find my strongest inspiration comes from collaboration

Each month I take on a limited number of custom tailored commissions

Most begin your simple idea such as a pet, a home, or an image that’s been sitting with you.  I then design through drawing and present a mockup for my linocut (woodcut is generally reserved for large editions).  The style, scale, and density are tailored to the subject rather than forced into a preset look.

Commissions are collaborative and start from a photo reference. I develop the image through sketches and block design, then carve and print the final piece by hand. You’ll see the work take shape as it’s made, and I will provide updates and insights into my design, carving and printing process.

What People Commonly Commission

  • Pet portraits

  • Houses, homes, and architectural scenes

  • Landscapes and landmarks

  • Select conceptual or illustrative ideas

If you’re unsure whether an idea fits, it usually does.

Pricing

Custom hand-carved prints start at $45 (small formats unframed).
Most commissions fall between $100–$450, depending on size, detail, paper, and framing.

Pricing is straightforward and based primarily on square inch and complexity.
Premium papers, professional framing, additional colors, or increased detail are quoted clearly before work begins.

A detailed rate sheet is available here:

Editions

Most commissions are printed as small editions of 1–5, unless we decide otherwise. Some images exist as a single print. The medium stays the same; the number is dictated by the image.

How to Start

To request a commission, use the form below or reach out with a brief description of your idea and any reference images you have. I’ll confirm scope, pricing, and timeline before anything is carved.

Standard Design Features:

My standard design requires a photo starting place where I generate digital design mockups through use of Adobe Fresco, Illustrator, Vectorizer, and Procreate. This gives me great pattern control and ability to give a quick turnaround mockup based on a photo starting place.

Color via Reduction Method

Prints can be commissioned via reduction. A process of printing the same plate over itself each time removing material so that it is not reprinted. What results is a layered textural multicolored composition. Inquire for more!

Premium Package Features

Premium Packages include select unique printmaking papers highly detailed designs approved by you. They also include professional float matting or double window matting with gallery frames.

Multiblock (a la Ukiyo-e)

One of my favorite color techniques is from Japanese woodblock Ukiyo-e. This is a way of each color being on its own block and the print is made from impressions from each different color block. I follow the method of color mixing to create the muted and neutral rich colors of Japanese printmaking with its signature 'key block' design while maintaining the distinctive look of Western linocut.

Advanced Detail

My method uses micro detail carving tools for which I use Pfifel and Rammelson 1mm sizes. However, I have fashioned my own tools from dremmel bits and hollowed out writing pens for details as fine as 0.25mm (!). For premium pricing I can generate lino designs that feel like intaglio printing due to tonal control and line sizes. This is my hallmark signature as a relief printer.

Color via "Painting with Brayer"

Another method of giving color is creating ombre and regions of color where it is obtained from the inking process being deliberate on every part. Separate color features cannot be obtained but incredible effects of fading and atmosphere create a different dimension than single monochrome prints.
