Commission a Custom Print
Affordable, meaningful, handmade, your own
I find the most inspiration not just from carving — but from collaborating.
When you commission a piece, it’s not transactional, it’s conversational. I work closely with you to shape a print that reflects your story, your mood, or that one strange idea you can’t stop thinking about. Whether it's a gift, a personal shrine, or just something beautiful and a little weird for your wall, we build it together.
You’ll receive design sketches, videos of the carving process, and ink tests along the way, so you're part of the journey from start to finish.
-
Custom hand-carved, hand-pressed prints start at $40 (includes a matte)
– Sizes: 3.5x5” or 4x6” -
Prices are simple $3 per sq in. for standard design complexity with matte. $5 per square inch for premium paper, professional framing services. Increased design complexity and color rates can be found on the [commission sheet.]
-
Most commissions fall between $100–$450, with larger or multi-color works priced accordingly
Every print is hand-inked and printed with care, typically in a limited edition of 1–5 unless we agree otherwise.
Common themes I excel at are pet portraits, home and landscape scenes and with my most serious works reflecting my influences (Redon, Goya, Kollwitz, Chiaroscuro, et al).
Standard Design Features:
My standard design requires a photo starting place where I generate digital design mockups through use of Adobe Fresco, Illustrator, Vectorizer, Procreate and Canva. This gives me great pattern control and ability to give a quick turnaround mockup based on a photo starting place.
Color via Reduction Method
Prints can be commissioned via reduction. A process of printing the same plate over itself each time removing material so that it is not reprinted. What results is a layered textural multicolored composition. Inquire more!
Premium Package Features
Premium Packages include highest quality inks and papers (Gamblin Oil Inks, Rives or Fabiano or Handmade Japanese Hosho). They also include professional matting or double matting or float framing.
Multiblock (a la Ukiyo-e)
One of my favorite color techniques is from Japanese woodblock Ukiyo-e. This is a way of each color being on its own block and the print is made from impressions from each different color block. I follow the method of color mixing to create the muted and neutral rich colors of Japanese printmaking with its signature 'key block' design.
Advanced Detail
My method uses micro detail carving tools for which I use Pfifel and Rammelson 1mm sizes. However, I have fashioned my own tools from dremmel bits and hollowed out writing pens for details as fine as 0.25mm (!). For premium pricing I can generate lino designs that feel like intaglio printing due to tonal control and line sizes. This is my hallmark signature as a relief printer.
Color via "Painting with Brayer"
Another method of giving color is creating ombre and regions of color where it is obtained from the inking process being deliberate on every part. Separate color features cannot be obtained but incredible effects of fading and atmosphere create a different dimension than single monochrome prints.
